Well here we are, only three days out from Day 0 of Chaplain BOLC. Not only is this the start of a new adventure in terms of my career, but it's also a new experience in terms of this blog. I have never blogged before but I am hoping this website proves beneficial to me and others reading it. I stumbled across the Chief End's Wordpress blog on his experience at CHBOLC from 2008 and I realized that it was quite a while ago that he was at the school. I looked for some other resources that are more current, and while I found a few websites, I figured I could contribute to the limited discussions on Chaplain BOLC there are out there. Primarily I hope this helps me communicate with my friends and family back home who are probably wondering what I am up to each day.
Having been on multiple mission trips and cadet summer training while in my undergrad, I realized that sometimes its hard to put into words an experience that can't be summed up in a short conversation. While explaining my experience, the person I'm speaking to misses all of the details and emotions that were going through my mind during the little moments, the memories of which lose their vividness with time. In response to the question, "How was your summer?" sometimes the only word I can think of is "good." What is hidden in that answer is a desire to expand on my experiences but I am either unable to because I have a hard time remembering the details or I am not sure how to explain in a concise way something that takes time to expound on. I am hoping that this blog can be a place where people can not only walk alongside me as I am experiencing CHBOLC, but also read into my heart and mind at different places along the way.
I hope this can be a place I can look back on and remember fond times, rigorous times and perhaps embarrassing times. I hope this can be a place I can look back and see how far the Lord has brought me in my journey and be an encouragement to me during the trials that I am sure to face in the years ahead. I am looking forward to sharing these moments with you and I pray that one day this website would be a resource, not just for those interested in learning about the Chaplaincy but also for those who seek the hope for salvation that is offered in Christ Jesus. No matter what happens over the course of my career, I know that it is in Him alone that my hope rests.
